MS, collection of Todd M. Axelrod. The letter was written on a halfpenny postcard printed in violet ink and measuring 4¾ by 3 inches, of a type in use from November 1870 until January 1875 (Marshall, 43, 46). The royal coat of arms appearing under the words ‘post card’ (191.9) has not been reproduced here.
L5 , 191; Current Company, item 29; Todd M. Axelrod, 124.
The MS was sold in 1977 by the Current Company of Rhode Island. It was acquired—perhaps then, certainly before 1981—by Jim Williams, a collector. Axelrod owned it by June 1983.
