Explanatory Notes

The postmark on the letter—12 December, a Tuesday—indicates that it was written on Monday, 11 December.

A revised contract for Colonel Sellers, which Raymond and Clemens had recently been negotiating (27 Oct 1876 to Raymondclick to open link).

The contract was with Charles T. Parsloe, the actor who was to play the title role in Ah Sin (20 Dec 1876 to Perkinsclick to open link).
