Explanatory Notes
1 Maze Edwards, on tour with the cast of Ah Sin, wrote Clemens on 10 September, “The business in St. Louis was not favorable, hence I have not been able to send Mr Perkins, anything other than a statement for the past week” (CU-MARK). No subsequent letter stating his intention to send money has been found.
