Dear Osgood—

If you & Roswell Smith are proposing a new magazine, & Howells won’t take the editorship, why don’t you offer the place to House? From what the papers say of the nature of the enterprise, I should think he would be just the man for it. Of course I have said nothing to him of the matter, & don’t know if he could drop his Japanese interests & his Japanese Consul-Generalship (probably in the hands of the Senate by this time,) still, I think it worth while to heave the suggestion at you.

The enclosed slip is by Rev. Thos. K. Beecher.
