Dear Mr. Anthony:

We the Clemenses do hereby unite in hearty congratulations, adding thereto our best wishes for Miss Anthony’s future happiness & prosperity.

What we meant to do was to send a card with regrets, in proper form & style, that we could not accept your kind invitation; but I haven’t been able to find a card—we are out. So, please let us waive style, & do the matter in this less formal way.

Peace be with thee & with thy household!

Sincerely Yours
S. L. Clemens
