My Dear T. B.—

Won’t you please say to Mrs. T. B., that the fact has recurred to us that we are engaged to dine with friends in Hartford Wednesday evening, & so are forced to defer the trip to Boston till Thursday? The engagement I speak of was made some little time ago, & was of so positive a nature that we cannot venture to excuse ourselves from it; & besides, we are to meet some strangers who will be unmeetable later. This thing makes an unpalatable disappointment for us, since it cuts off a day from our Boston spree with you.

We shall leave for Boston about noon, Thursday, per Boston & Albany road, & reach your house about 4, I should think.

Yrs Ever
Mark.
