To Edgar W. Howe
20 April 1884 • Hartford, Conn. (MS, in pencil: TxU-Hu, UCCL 02961)
Dear Mr. Howe—

Been visiting, a day or two in Boston. Howells is drunk with admiration of your book, in general, & of Lytle Biggs in particular. As T. B. Aldrich was present on during one whole evening, & had to listen to so much talk about a book which he has not seen, he naturally got pretty well filled up with curiosity. Come, now, what sort of worldly wisdom is this, which permits you to send a book to the late editor of the Atlantic before you send one to the present occupant of that throne? Don’t Mend this, & send Aldrich a book. (59 Mount Vernon street Boston is his address.[ ) ]

Ys sincerely
S L Clemens
