Dear Pond—

It is now a good perhaps time that we three get together & have lf emendation a talk. All has been done that can be done by correspondence; & has also been done as well as things can be done in that lame way. Now if you & Cable will can run up here some day or night within the next 48 hours or so, without too much inconvenience, it might be a good enough thing to do. There is no rigorous necessity for it, of course, because such inconsequential bolluxes errors as we might forestall by a talk, we can remedy as we go along through the preliminary small towns. Of course the appearing in half a dozen small towns first is for the purpose of weeding out bolluckses; errors; I understand that.

I got Cable’s note yesterday, & do immensely approve of the change he suggests in the distribution of the stage-work. Let us stick to that plan—each to read a very short piece first; then Cable to bunch the rest of his time together; & afterward I follow him & bunch all my remaining time together, & so close the performance. (Though I make one exception to this rule—see my program marked “4th Day,” herewith enclosed.) Wish to read “Tom as King” first.

Yes—“carriages at 10”—advertise that, always.

I sent you programs for 1st & 2d Days—but the one for 2d day I think I afterward corrected as to what it now is, (herewith enclosed.)

I now send you programs for the 5 first appearances—thus we I appear in a new program every night for the first five nights. Careful note must be taken of the piece which takes best every night during the five—& then we will make up a permanent one-night program out of the pieces thus elected. See?

Yrs
Mark.
