Enclosed is are programs for 2 New York Nights. That The one for the first night is perhaps a trifle stronger than the other—& if it isn’t, I learned last night how to make it so, af (while on platform.)
Now you can furnish these to the next five or six towns—first one & then the other, turn-about, (every other night) so as to keep me familiar with both & always “up” in my part for “2-night[”] towns.
After a week, the same programs can be furnished to a lot of succeeding towns, if we I find by that time that they satisfy me.
Here is a letter for from my brother, in Keokuk, Iowa, where my mother lives. One of the dates he menttions as being open, is Jan 13. Now how would it do to read in Hannibal, Mo., (where I spent my entire boyhood, in company with Huck Finn & Tom Sawyer) Monday, Jan. 12,—then run up & read in Keokuk Tuesday night Jan 13? I’d like that, IMMENSELY. Both . Ⓐemendation towns.
We will have no Place Congo music in the programs—Cable is going to slam that in as a gratuity, at the right time, whil on the platform. Good idea.
Mind you—in Hannibal you are not to sell the show; no, just write to John H. Garth, (old schoolmateⒶemendation of mine,) & ask him to put you in communication with proprietor of Opera House or hall. We will not in pencil: runⒶemendation the show ourselves. I think this will be best, for the reason that I shall give all my share of the proceeds to some charity of the town—no money to be carried away except your’sⒶemendation & Cable’s.
