To Reginald Cholmondeley

My dear Mr Cholmondeley

Yes indeed feuds existed in Kentucky, Tennessee, &emendation Arkansas, of the nature described, within my time & memory.

Iemendation came very near being an eye-witness of the general engagement detailed in the book. The details are historical & correct.

We thought we were coming to England, & had begun to make our plans;emendation but that has all been knocked in the head for the present. Mrs Clemens won'temendation let the children’s schooling be interrupted this year. But next year maybe I can meet the original Bilgewater1explanatory note; & if he is in your company, I’ll be mighty glad to.

Sincerely yours
S. L. Clemens.

Explanatory Notes
1 Mary Cholmondeley provided the following footnote with her transcript: “Reginald Cholmondeley had invited Mark Twain to meet his brother in law the late Lord Egerton of Talton. There had been some question of Lord Egerton taking the title of Bridgewater, which Mark Twain miscalls so delightfully.”
