Dear Sir:

I have read the little book through, &emendation greatly enjoyed it. I like the straightforward simplicity of its language. The Indian idea of creation is more picturesque &emendation poetical than the Biblical one; Handsome Lake’s heaven is much more attractive &emendation reasonable than the one in Revelations; &emendation among other striking things in the book it is curious to note that the dark-complectioned woman who descended to the watery world was provided with children by miraculous, (&emendation let us hope, immaculate) conception. It is an odd coincidence. With many thanks for the entertaining little volume, I am

Truly yours,
S. L. Clemens.
