Sales catalog, Christie’s, 9 June 2004, no. 505, lot 52. The letter is bound into volume 1 of set 38 of SLC 1899–1907. The volume is inscribed to an unidentified recipient “on the justification leaf”: “Truly Yours / Mark Twain / Oct 23/03.”
Newly published on MTPO, 2010.
Described as the “property of a gentleman,” the 25-volume set with the letter bound in was offered for sale by Christie’s in 2004.
