Dear J T. ’s. emendation

Congratulate me, my often remembered friends—for lo, the child is born! It was most flatteringly received—1200 applausive & appreciative people present. I have dropped a note to the S. & K., Yale College, inclosing the emendationparagraphs. I speak in Pittsburgh tomorrow & Elmira 23d. Love to you both. Good-bye. Yrs

MS, Joseph H. Twichell Collection, Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library, Yale University (CtY-BR).

Previous Publication:

L2 , 282.

Provenance:

It is not known when Twichell’s papers were deposited at Yale, although it is likely that he bequeathed them to the university upon his death in 1918. He was a trustee of the Yale Corporation for thirty-nine years (1874–1913); Yale gave him an honorary M.A. in 1886, and made him an honorary Doctor of Divinity in 1913; and at least one of his sons (Joseph Hooker Twichell, who was on the football team) attended Yale (Strong, 162).
