Explanatory Notes

Clemens wished to know when Charles Kingsley would arrive to begin his 14 and 15 March visit to Hartford. Kingsley, who was lecturing under Redpath’s management, was coming from Troy, New York (Frances Eliza Grenfell Kingsley, 2:427).
