MS card sent with copy of SLC 1869, MH-H (call no. *AC85 H7375 Zz869c). The card was tipped into the book, presumably when it was rebound in half morocco, and the book is signed by Holmes on the inner flap (‘O W Holmes | Boston’) and on the flyleaf (‘O W Holmes’).

1 Probably around the middle of September, the American Publishing Company sent at Clemens’s request a copy of The Innocents Abroad to Oliver Wendell Holmes, who responded on 26 September (see 30 Sept 1869click to open link to Holmes, n. 1)
